When an optical disk 10 is loaded, a system control section 300 recognizes the class of the disk by the focus search of an optical pickup 220 and rotates a spindle motor 212 with constant linear velocity at the position. During the linear velocity constant control, the location of the optical pickup 220 is recognized based on the count value of an internal counter, recognizes a distance r from the center and a rotational speed N at that location, and an intrinsic linear velocity L of the optical disk 10 is computed by L=2πrN. An actual prescribed position where information is processed is relatively computed based on the intrinsic linear velocity. Movement is appropriately conducted to an actual position when information processing is to be conducted, the time up to the information processing is reduced and the information processing is quickly performed.
