To provide an information providing device and method for acquiring a user profile including the sex and age of a user and the level information of the user's interests in information and the user's evaluation information on the information from the user's appearance, line of sight, expression, and motion, and selecting and providing proper information to the user based on the information and a recording medium in which an information providing program is recorded.

A user profile including the age and sex of a user is acquired by a user profile reading device 13, and which information interests the user to which extent is decided by a user's sight-line reading device 17 so that the level information of the user's interests in the information can be acquired, and which information leads to what kind of evaluation is decided by a user's evaluation reading device 15 so that the user's evaluation information on the information can be acquired. Thus, it is possible to select and present proper information to the user from an information to be provided data base based on the user profile, the level information of the user's interests, and the user's evaluation information.
