PURPOSE: To attain excellent reproduction automatically by utilizing effectively a superimposed pilot signal on a recording track and an oscillating means having plural oscillating frequencies.
CONSTITUTION: The oscillating means 17 oscillates alternatively plural kinds of frequency signals in response to a designating means of the reproduction form corresponding to the interval between tracks. Furthermore, the means 18 obtains a signal to control converting means 3A, 3B by using a frequency signal of the means 17 to move at least one of rotary heads 2AW2D in a direction orthogonal to the rotary face. Then the time information to the repetitive period of the pilot signal reproduced by the rotary heads is obtained and the means 15 controls the means 16 based on the time information and the frequency signal of the means 17. Thus, excellent reproduction is attained automatically.
