PURPOSE: To report a route changeover switch should be operated when a fault occurs to a device in the system wherein plural devices are arranged in hierarchic structure, by comparing a desired device connection state with a current device connection state.
CONSTITUTION: Transfer controllers CH01 and CH00 are connected to a main memory MS through a CPU. An optimum constitution table CFT which is a correspondence table of device fault patterns and desired device connection states is generated in the main memory MS during system generation, and one physical device control block PUC for showing the state of a device is provided to each device. If a fault occurs, the blocks PUC are checked firstly to find current device connection states. Then, the table CFT is retrieved to obtain a desired device connection state, which is exclusively ORed with the current device connection state to output the result together with additional information. Thus, an error in device switching by an operator is prevented.
