To provide an ink jet printer capable of sliding a wiper on a nozzle surface of a recording head by the relative movement of the wiper to the recording head, and preventing ink from remaining on an end and near the nozzle surface with a simple structure.
A wiper guide groove 72 of an ink jet printer includes a second dedicated path 72b for separating a wiper 41 from a nozzle surface 23b during a second movement that is a movement of a wiper vertical movement guide pin 51 from a contact position at which the wiper 41 contacts the nozzle surface 23b of the recording head 23 to a retreat position at which the wiper 41 is separate from the nozzle surface 23b. A path switching plate 74 prevents the wiper vertical movement guide pin 51 from entering the second dedicated path 72b during a first movement from the retreat position to the contact position, and allows the wiper vertical movement guide pin 51 to exit the second dedicated path 72b.
