To provide an inkjet recorder which can use recording heads (small dot head and large dot head) of different head characteristics (particularly ejection amounts) by performing head exchange.

The inkjet recorder which can exchange the recording head for the recording head of a different kind comprises a head conformity judging means which judges whether or not the kind of the recording head loaded in the apparatus conforms with the apparatus; a notifying means which notifies a user of the kind of the recording head if the kind of the head is judged as conforming by the conformity judging means; an indicating means which indicates at least the kind of a recording medium selected by the user to be used and a printing mode; a printing process information determining means which determines printing process information according to the kind of the recording medium indicated by the user, the printing mode and the detection result of a head kind detecting means; a printing control means which sets the determined printing process information to each internal unit and controls a printing sequence; an image processing means which carries out a process corresponding to the set printing process information; a head control means; and a transfer means.
