To provide an input device for allowing a user to operate an image in the same way before/after the posture change of the input device, and also to provide a controller, a handheld device, a control system including the devices, and a control method.

The input device 1 has a control mode to detect the posture of the input device 1 by an incorporated sensor unit, arbitrarily switch the detection axis of the sensor unit in response to the change of the posture, and ensure correspondence to the same axis on a screen. Consequently, when the posture of the input device 1 is changed, e.g., even when the user moves the input device 1 in the same direction before/after the posture change, the image is operated in the same way before/after the posture change.
