Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce an insert-casting body of ceramics by Al having excellent adhesiveness by manufacturing a sintered structural body of an alumina fiber layer, mixed layer composed of ZnO2 and alumina fibers and ZnO2 layer, putting the structural body with the alumina layer faced upward into a casting device, pouring a molten Al alloy therein and pressurizing and solidifying the molten alloy.

CONSTITUTION: A small amt. of an aq. colloidal silica soln. is added to an assemblage consisting of alumina fibers and is mixed therewith. Such aggregate is put into the recess formed of the lower punch 4 of a metallic mold 2. A mixture 8 composed of 90% ZnO2 powder and 10% alumina fiber is placed thereon and further ZnO2 powder 7 is disposed into a layer shape thereon. The assemblage is then pressurized by an upper punch 3 to form a molding 6 which is heated at 1,700°C in an electric furnace to sinter the ZnO2 powder, thereby the structural body 14 having the alumina fiber layer 13 and the ceramic layer 12 consisting of the mixed layer 11 composed of the ZnO2 and the alumina fibers is prepd. The body 14 with the alumina fiber layer 13 faced upward is placed in the casting device 15 and the molten Al alloy 18 is poured therein and is pressurized and solidified by a cope 19, by which the ceramic body insert-cast with the Al alloy is produced.
