Abstract:

PURPOSE: To test a long material having a non-circular cross sectional surface by inclining a testing coil, and adjusting a test cross sectional surface of the coil to the cross sectional surface of the subject material.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of testing a material having an elliptic cross sectional surface, a set screw is excited to form an inclination condition of coils in a coil group 32, and it is engaged on the testing coil 26 above a guide cut 30 in the parallel direction to the moving direction 18. At the timing when the set screw is inserted, a set angle 22 is decreased, and a minor diameter of the elliptic cross sectional surface to be tested in the group 32 is reduced. The set angle 22 which is necessary to a specific radius ratio of the elliptic cross sectional surface to be tested is determined based on simple geometric relation. Testing coils 23-26 are, favorably, short ones as a result. As a desired cross sectional surface to be tested in the group 32 is set, the material is made possible to be guided, and testing can be started. The coils 23-26 are connected to pairs of coils 23, 24 or 25, 26 which are connected in series, and a totalized signal in a differential signal mode is applied to an output end 29.
