PURPOSE: To make a titled installation advantageous in terms of energy economization, productivity and overall cost by detecting abnormality in casting with good accuracy and performing the process operation corresponding to such abnormality thereby performing the post-treatment meeting quality.
CONSTITUTION: A process control device 20 sends a scarfing command to a hot scarfer 14 with a flawed billet 22 to perform hot scarfing of the billet 22 when a casting condition signal is transmitted with abnormality in casting. The control device emits a transfer command to roll directly the billet in a hot rolling installation 19 to a billet transfer device 16 when the billet 22 is decided to be adequate for direct rolling by a flaw inspection after the flaw is eliminated. When the rate of the temp. decrease exceeds a reference owing to the low absolute value of the heat flow fux, the command to transfer the billet to a installation 17 for mending the cold billet or to a billet heater 18 is applied from the device 20 to the device 16. When the abnormality in casting exceeds a permissible limit and the generation of a cracked flaw, etc. is sure, the device 20 commands a gas cutter 11 so as to minimize discard and to avoid a decrease in yield.
