Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an intake quantity independent on a throttle valve, and to avoid the deterioration in combustion in an extremely low load area while sufficiently reducing a pumping loss.
SOLUTION: This intake control device has a lift operating angle variable mechanism capable of simultaneously and continuously controlling the expansion and contraction of a lift operating angle of an intake valve, and a phase variable mechanism for delaying and advancing a phase of a lift central angle, and controls the intake quantity by variable control of a valve lift characteristic of the intake valve. The phase of the lift central angle is controlled in a minimum lift of a degree having no influence on the intake quantity in the extremely low load area of idling, and the phase is delayed so that the intake valve closing timing becomes the vicinity of the lower dead center. The lift operating angle is expanded so as to control the intake air quantity mainly by the valve timing in a low load area, the phase is advanced, and the closing timing is quickened. A very small flow can be stably controlled in the extremely low load area, and a lift quantity becomes relatively large in the low load area so that the pumping loss is reduced.
