To avoid a problem that an exhaust gas fine particle accumulates mainly at the center of a honeycomb monolithic filter 1, which is damaged owing to large temperature gradient on the regeneration.
There is composed of the honeycomb monolithic filter 1 using porous ceramics. A block cell 2A whose upstream end is blocked and an open cell 2B whose downstream end is blocked are arranged alternately and adjacently. A catalytic layer 4 dispersing catalytic metal is coated on the surface of the filter 1. The amount of the coating is much at the center of the filter, and little at the filter periphery. This makes ventilation resistance at the center of the filter great and exhaust gas flowing along the periphery much, so that the fine particle accumulation amount is uniform in distribution and the temperature gradient is small on the regeneration.
