Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of controlling flame formed by combustion of air-fuel mixture in a combustion chamber.SOLUTION: A piston 5 disposed so as to be reciprocable inside a cylinder 2 of an internal combustion engine 1 forms a combustion chamber 6 with an inner wall of the cylinder 2. The cylinder 2 and the piston 5 are connected to a ground 7. An ignition plug 20 functioning as voltage applying means can apply positive or negative voltage to flame which is combusted by spark ignition or compressed self-ignition of air-fuel mixture supplied to the combustion chamber 6. Accordingly, the flame 20 in the combustion chamber 6 is in a positive or negative high potential state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
