PURPOSE: To make it possible to print "kana" (Japanese syllabary in square form) easily alongside of desired "kanji" (Chinese character) from a keyboard, by arranging "kanji" patterns and ruby (giving the pronunciation of "kanji") patterns of a print part on the base of the same printing head while providing a "kana" inputting means with a ruby assigning means.
CONSTITUTION: A "kana" signal inputted on keyboard 2 is sent, word by word, to "kana"-"kanji" conversion parr 12, where the "kana" character is converted into "kanji" or "hirakana" (Japanese syllabary in round form) by referring to a file memory (not shown in the figure). This character information is supplied to "kanji" generator 13 and also sent to print part 5. When a ruby assignment signal arrives from keyboard 2, on the other hand, "kana" generator information that corresponds to this "kanji" word is supplied from file 4 to "kana" generator 14 and then sent to print part 5 as a ruby pattern. For longitudinal wirting, longitudinal-lateral conversion parts 15 and 16 perform longitudinal-lateral conversion of both the patterns synchronizing with keyboard 2 and supply the results to print part heads 17 and 18.
