Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and easily perform frictional agitation jointing of comparatively thin plate materials while maintaining a required strength.
SOLUTION: This jointing method comprises; a process for bending edges of plates 1a and 1b along end faces 2a and 2b in a manner that its cross section is approximately U-shape and forming bent parts 4a and 4b along new end faces 6a and 6b; a process for restraining a pair of the plates 1a and 1b under the condition that the end faces 6a and 6b are abutting in a manner that the bent parts 4a and 4b are adjacent; and a process for pressing a surface restraining part 14 on a cylindrical bobbin 12 bottom face being rotated against the bent parts 4a and 4b of the plates 1a and 1b, inserting an agitation pin 16 hung from a center of the surface restraining part 14 in the proximity of the abutting end faces 6a and 6b of the plates 1a and 1b from the adjacent part of the bent parts 4a and 4b of the plates 1a and 1b, by a given depth, and moving the bobbin 12 and the agitation pin 16 along the end faces of the plates 1a and 1b so as to apply frictional agitation jointing.
