To simplify adjustment of the angle of a wavelength conversion element by attaching the wavelength conversion element with high accuracy.
A wavelength conversion element holder 58 is provided with an attachment reference surface 84 against which an emission surface 35b of a substantially rectangular parallelepiped wavelength conversion element 35 abuts to position the wavelength conversion element. The wavelength conversion element is fixed to the wavelength conversion element holder by an adhesive 106 in a state abutting against the attachment reference surface. The adhesive is applied to a top face 35e and a bottom face 35f adjoining the emission surface, and a bottom face 107 of a recess 89 formed contiguously to the attachment reference surface of the wavelength conversion element holder substantially in parallel therewith.
