Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: A compd. represented by formula I [q is 0 or 2; R1 is (L)a-(CH2)b-(T)cM (a is 0 or 1; b is 3-14; c is 0 or 1; L and T are 0 or CH2; M is 1-4C alkyl or ethynyl); Y is (CHX) (CH2)p-Z (p is 0-2; X is OH or 1-4C alkoxy; Z is COR3 or tetrazolyl and R3 is OH or NH2) and R is -(CH2)d-W (W is substd. phenyl; and d is 0-6)].
EXAMPLE: 2-hydroxy-3-(2-carboxyphenylthio)-3-[2-(8-phenyloctyl)phenyl]propionic acid.
USE: A leuktriene antagonist.
PROCESS: A compd. represented by formula II (d is 1 or 2; X is OH; and R1 and R13 are 1-4C alkyl) is reacted with a strong base to obtain thiol represented by formula III and this compd. is subsequently reacted with an alkylating agent to obtain the compd. represented by formula I.
