PURPOSE: To provide light emitting glass consisting of Sb2O3, R2O3 (R is an element such as Sc), MnO, MO (M is an element such as Mg) and B2O3, having a low softening point and very low water solubility, and changing the color of emitted light in accordance with the amounts of added Sb and Mn.
CONSTITUTION: This light emitting glass having an emitted light distribution in the visible range when excited by ultraviolet rays has a composition represented by a general formula xSb2O3.yR2O3.zMnO.vMO.wB2O3, wherein R is at least 1 kind of element selected from Sc, Y, La, Gd and Lu, M is at least 1 kind of element selected from Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn, 0.01≤x≤10mol%, 1≤y≤20%, 0≤z≤10%, 30≤v≤50% and 30≤w≤80%. Since Mn increases the luminance, it is preferable to adjust the value of (z) to 0.01≤z≤10%. Said glass has an effect of preventing the film of a fluorescent lamp from peeling or an effect of improving the color rendering, and it is suitable for use as a material for an optical fiber, a decoration, etc.
