Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a light function element which has light emission property in wide band and is integrated in high density.
CONSTITUTION: A light function element is equipped with a semiconductor substrate 1 and a light function layer (light emission layer, absorption layer, and light waveguide layer) made on hereon, and the light function layer has a multiple quantum well layer 6. Preferably, the substrate is a nonflat semiconductor substrate which has a ridge 1-10μm in width and 1-5μm in height and grooves 1-10μm in widths. Such an element is manufactured by forming a distorted multiple quantum well layer on the nonflat semiconductor substrate in the specified size range by organic metal vapor growth method. A light integrated element is equipped with such a light function element on the above-mentioned substrate. A light integrated element, which has a light emitting and receiving function, can be manufactured on this specified substrate by functionally combining a plurality of light function elements which have a part of distorted multiple quantum well structures being made monolithically and the compositions of which vary a little.
