PURPOSE: To stably measure the blood pressure with high accuracy by holding the pressure applied to the part to be examined in the vicinity of an average blood pressure value, and selecting and setting the light emission quantity at the time when amplitude of a photoelectric pulse wave signal is the largest, while varying the light emission quantity.
CONSTITUTION: When a start button of a continuous sphygmomanometer is pushed, a pressure supply means 5 and a solenoid valve 3 operate and internal pressure of a cuff 1 rises gradually. By holding the cuff pressure in 90mm Hg being everage blood pressure, light emission intensity from a light emitting means 19 is held for two seconds each in each stage, while varying it stepwise from weak to strong, and amplitude of a photoelectric pulse wave signal is stored in a memory of a control CPU circuit 15. Subsequently, in these data, whether the largest amplitude is larger than a prescribed value or not is decided, and the light emission quantity at the time when the amplitude of the photoelectric pulse wave signal is the largest amplitude, comparing with the prescribed value is held. Next, the cuff pressure is reduced to 30mm Hg, and after executing the initialization, a continuous blood pressure measurement is started, pressure is applied to fingers by a pressure supply means so that the photoelectric pulse wave signal becomes a control target value derived by initialization, and a pressure waveform in this case is read as a blood pressure waveform of a person to be examined.
