To generate a white light color having a high color temperature, while simultaneously achieving high efficiency and high color rendering, in particular, to cause a color position within a tolerance ellipse determined for general illumination by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) to be generated.
A light source, having a light-emitting device and a phosphor, wherein the light-emitting device, emits light in a first spectral range and the phosphor is derived from a group of alkaline earth metal orthosilicates, absorbs a part of the light emitted from the light-emitting device, and emits a light in another spectral range. The phosphor is made of an alkaline earth metal orthosilicate activated by divalent europium, represented as (2-x-y)SrO x(Bau, Cav)O (1-a-b-c-d)SiO2aP2O5bAl2O3cB2O3dGeO2:yEu2+ (where 0<x<1.6, 0.005<y<0.5, x+y≤1.6, 0≤a, b, c, d<0.5, and u+v=1) and/or an alkaline earth metal orthosilicate, represented as (2-x-y)BaO x(Sru, Cav)O (1-a-b-c-d)SiO2aP2O5bAl2O3cB2O3dGeO2:yEu2+ (where 0.01<x<1.6, 0.005<y<0.5, 0≤a, b, c, d<0.5, u+v=1, and x×u≥0.4).
