PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and high performance light transmission body and a line illumination device by making a scattering pattern forming step by silk-screen printing with a white pigment unnecessary.
SOLUTION: A triangular shaped projecting and recessing plane 1b is formed on the rear surface of the light transmission body 1 with a specified pitch. The plane 1b is formed unitedly with the light transmission body 1 in the case of injection molding the light transmission body 1. Incident light from an incident plane propagates to the main scanning direction (the longitudinal direction) with total reflection inside the light transmission body. The light arriving at the plane 1b is scattered and totally reflected thereon. The light scattered and totally reflected at the plane 1b is emitted from a light-emitting plane. The light intensity in the main scanning direction is uniformized by making the length of the plane 1b longer as the distance from the incident plane gets further. The position where the light intensity in the subscanning direction is maximized, and the distribution characteristics of the light intensity in the subscanning direction, are varied by adjusting an angle between the ridge line of the plane 1b and the subscanning direction.
