The lighting device comprises a main body 1 which is formed into a cross-sectionally nearly rectangular column shape and is filled with a translucent member 2, a recessed part 3 which is formed connected to the main body 1 along the longitudinal direction of the column on a face 1a constituting the first side of a rectangle, a plurality of light-emitting diodes 4 arranged in the recessed part 3, and a face 1b constituting the second side of the rectangle opposed to the light-emitting diodes 4. The refractive index of the faces 1c and 1d constituting a third side and a fourth side that are formed connected to at least the first side of the rectangle is made larger than that of the refractive index of air, and the faces 1c and 1d constituting the third side and the fourth side are formed so that light from the light-emitting diodes 4 may almost total-reflect at the faces 1c and 1d constituting the third side and the fourth side.
