Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system for improving brightness without lowering color purity, for instance.
SOLUTION: First lighting light IG1' from a first light source 21a transmits a dichromic mirror DM at a high rate. Second lighting light IG2 from a second light source 21b is converted into S polarization which is not P polarization through a polarization conversion part PC, and reflected on the dichromic mirror DM approximately 100 %. As the result, both light IG1 and IG2 from both lighting light sources 21a and 21b can be coupled at very low loss, and a liquid crystal light valve for G light 31 can be illuminated at high brightness.
