Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide a high performance, inexpensive linear guide mechanism for actuator requiring no bearing nor guide rail which is expensive and produces dust. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 3 bonded to a coil 1 is supported by flexible materials 4-(a), (b), and a magnetic circuit comprising a magnet 2(a) and a yoke 2(b) produces magnetic flux traversing the coil 1 thus feeding current through the coil 1. Consequently, the carriage 3 reciprocates linearly and a transducer 6 supported by a guide arm 5 fixed to the carriage 3 reads and writes signals from/into a disc medium 7. Since no bearing nor guide rail is employed in the linear guide mechanism for actuator, access time is not shortened nor dust is produced through downsizing of carriage resulting in enhancement of reliability, downsizing and cost reduction.
