To provide a projection type display device capable of suppressing deterioration in reproducibility of a display picture due to temperature changes.

In the projection type display device of this invention, a pair of substrates each constituting liquid crystal light bulbs is provided with respective capacitance measuring electrodes 4a, 4b, and is provided with a temperature detection circuit 8 for measuring electric capacitance of the liquid crystal using these capacitance measuring electrodes and detecting the liquid crystal temperature based on the electric capacitance obtained. Further, a driving control circuit 11 for correcting a driving signal based on the information of the liquid crystal temperature detected by the temperature detection circuit 8 is included.
