PURPOSE: To provide the liquid crystal display element having high display quality which lessens the degradation in threshold voltage even in a low-frequency region and has decreased unequal brightness and threshold value.
CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal display element is provided with oriented films 3a, 3b on a pair of substrates 1a, 1b, at least one of which have light transparent electrodes and is clamped with a nematic liquid crystal 4 which exhibits positive dielectric constant anisotropy and contains a rotary polarization material between these substrates 1a and 1b. The nematic liquid crystal molecules are oriented in a spiral form having a spiral axis perpendicular to the substrates between the substrates and the twist angle of the nematic liquid crystal between the substrates is ≥90°. Org. ligands forming complex with ionic impurities are incorporated into the nematic liquid crystal.
