PURPOSE: To provide a lithium secondary battery high in capacity and excellent in cycle life by constituting carbonic material of a negative electrode out of pitch carbonic particles at true gravity where optical anisotropic structure is developed at random.
CONSTITUTION: Random grains are separated from a product obtained by heat- treating petroleum pitch for 30 minutes at a temperature of 350°C in inert gas atmosphere, and those are collected and further heat-treated at a temperature of 100°C in the same atmosphere, whereby they are carbonated and made into spherical carbon grains 20μm in average grain diameter and 1.6-2.2 in true specific gravity. Methacrylic acid alkyl ether butadiene copolymer is mixed and kneaded as a binder at a weight rate of 90:5 to this powder, and it is pressed and molded into specified shape, and then lithium is added to it by electrolytic impregnation method to make a negative electrode. In a positive electrode container 1 and a negative electrode container 5, a positive electrode 2, a separator 4 impregnated with lithium ion conductive electrolyte, and a negative electrode 7 are sealed to make a coin type nonaqueous solvent secondary battery.
