To prevent the theft of articles stored in a glove box for vehicle, by driving a lock member to a fixation releasing position so as to allow the cover material opening operation at the only time when coming close of an operator to an operation unit or opening operation of a cover material is detected during the time when getting on of a regular occupant is recognized.

In the case where a regular occupant gets off a vehicle in the condition that a cover material is closed, a control device 22 recognizes it, and when a door is locked or an ignition key is drawn out, even in the case where operation of an operation button 17 is detected, the lock member 20 is maintained at a second rotating position. Consequently, an end surface of the operation button 17 abuts on the peripheral surface of the lock member 20 so as to fix a latch member 11 in the condition that the latch member 11 is engaged with a striker. In this condition, even if the operation button 17 is pushed, the cover material can not be opened. During the time when the control device 22 recognizes getting on of the normal occupant, when the operation of the operation button 17 is detected, the lock member 20 is rotated from the second rotating position to the first rotating position and held at the first rotating position so as to allow the operation button 17 to be pushed in.
