Abstract:

To provide a machine tool capable of reducing the total height of a machining system and the machine tool.

A lathe 1 comprises a bed 5 constituting a frame, one head stock 6 which is supported by a substantially perpendicular front wall 9 of the bed and rotatably supports a spindle so that the axis CL is directed substantially horizontal, and a tool rest 7 which is located below the height position H of the axis CL of the spindle, supported by the front wall of the bed, and provided with one or a plurality of tools 15. By moving the tool rest 7 in the Z-axis direction parallel to the axis of the spindle 7, and moving the tool rest in the X-axis direction to the head stock, a work held by a chuck 11 fitted to a tip of the spindle is machined by a tool.
