PURPOSE: To increase the max. color density of a photographic material by using a polymer coupler obtd. from a specified magenta coupler monomer.

CONSTITUTION: A polymer magenta coupler having at least one structural unit expressed by formula I is used for a color photographic material. In formula, R1 is H, an alkyl group, etc., X is H or a group which can be released by coupling, Za-Zc are (substd.) methine groups, =N-, etc., and either of Za-Zb or Zb-Zc represents a double bond and the other represents a single bond. Moreover, any substituents in R1, X or the methine groups are ethylene type unsatd. polymerizable groups and carboxyl groups. These groups can be bonded to the same substituents. The polymer coupler is produced by copolymn. of monomers of the formula I (such as a monomer expressed by formula II) and other monomers such as (meth)acrylat].
