PURPOSE: To improve wear resistance of a magnetic head against a magnetic tape and to improve durability of the head by forming a protective film having high adhesion strength to the surface of the magnetic head facing to a recording medium.
CONSTITUTION: This magnetic head 30 has such a structure that magnetic cores 12 are housed in a shield case 22 and the front end of the magnetic core 12 is exposed to the surface of the case facing to a recording medium. An intermediate layer 32 and a protective film 34 are laminated on the surface 26 of the magnetic head facing to the medium including at least the front edge of the magnetic core. Thereby, since the intermediate layer having large adhesion strength is formed between the protective film and the medium-facing surface, adhesion strength of the protective film is increased and the protective film hardly peels.
