PURPOSE: To provide the magnetic head which is suitable for mass production and is capable of dealing with high-density magnetic recording by preventing the contact of glass and ferrite by dense gap films, decreasing the stresses of the gap films to the ferrite and improving the adhesion property of the gap films and fused glass.
CONSTITUTION: The gap films 3, 4 are formed on at least one butt surfaces of a pair of magnetic core substrates 1, 2 consisting of oxide magnetic materials. These gap films 3, 4 are formed as the butt surfaces and a pair of such magnetic core substrates 1, 2 are butted against each other. A magnetic gap g is formed between these butt surfaces. The films consisting of metals or alloys mainly consisting of platinum or platinum group are used as the gap films 3, 4. Films consisting of Cr or an alloy mainly composed of the Cr, films consisting of Ti or an alloy mainly composed of the Ti or films consisting of oxides mainly composed of Ta2O5 or Ta2O5 may be used.
