PURPOSE: To increase the coercive force and the like and to improve the characteristics of the subject magnetic material by a method wherein at least one of Os, Ir, Ru, Rh and Pt is added to the permanent magnet consisting of rare-earth metal and cobalt.
CONSTITUTION: At least one of the Os, Ir, Ru, Rh, and Pt is added to the component of the permanent magnet consisting of the rare-earth metal and Co. For example, the component of R(Co1-x-yMxOsy)z is obtained, R is consisted of Y and one or more of lanthanum elements and M is consisted of 3d-transition metal and one or more of Cu, IVa, and VIa groups. The magnet having the component as above has a larger coercive force and maximum energy product as compared with the Os=0 magnet and its characteristics can be improved. Also if the Os is replaced with the specified metal, the same effect as above can be obtained. Thus, the characteristics of the rare-earth cobalt can be improved.
