Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having high durability and excellent electromagentic transducing characteristics by using a polyurethane binder having satisfactory adhesive property and dispersing property and giving a coating film excellent in strength, surface smoothness, solubility to an org. solvent and solvent resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic layer 1 based on ferromagnetic powder and a binder is formed on a nonmagnetic substrate 2 to obtain a magnetic recording medium. The binder contains polyurethane obtd. by allowing polyester diol (A) obtd. by a condensation reaction of 3-methyl-1,5-pentanediol with aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and diol (B) having an alkyl group and 70-250mol.wt. to react with an org. diisocyanate (C), the molar ratio of A:B is (1:2)-(1:8) and a clear film of the polyurethane shows the max. tangent loss at 30-100°C.
