PURPOSE: To provide a recording medium having excellent runnability, running durability and wear resistance by providing a coating layer consisting of an furan resin on the surface of the medium on the side opposite from the surface having a magnetic recording medium.
CONSTITUTION: The coating layer 3 consisting of the furan resin is provided on the surface on the side opposite from the surface having the magnetic recording medium 1. The furan resin refers to a resin contg. a furan ring as a constituting element in the resin skeleton and the thin film thereof is formed by coating the resin in the original state on the surface then heating and curing the coating in a furnace to dry and cure the film; otherwise, an org. acid such as paratoluene sulfonic acid, benzoic acid or acetic acid or inorg. acid such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid or nitric acid is added as a curing accelerating catalyst to the resin and the thin dry and cured film is formed while the time for curing reaction is reduced at a relatively low temp. The nonmagnetic base is exemplified by a polyester, cellulose, acryl, polyamide, polyimide, polyamide imide, etc.
