PURPOSE: To obtain the same effect that two sound tracks are provided, by recording a mixture signal of a video signal and any other audio signal than an audio signal recorded on the sound track on a video track.

CONSTITUTION: As for a video signal from terminal 24, its Y signal is extracted and frequency-modulated 26 before being input to mixer 27. On the other hand, an audio signal differing from that recorded on a sound track is input from terminal 28 and then applied to modulator 29 and a carrier is modulated by oscillator 30 of a frequency close to that of a low-frequency converted chroma signal and input to to mixer 27. Then, the output of mixer 27 is recorded on video tape 34 by heads 32 and 33. Thus, the audio signal and video signal are recorded on the video track and in reproduction, they are separated to obtain the Y signal and audio signal. In this way, the same effect that two sound tracks are provided can be obtained. Therefore, stereophonic play, etc., comes into effect.
