Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always allow an appropriate sensing current to flow through each of MR heads by reading out a sensing current value corresponding to a measured value of each of resistors so as to be set as a sensing current value of each of MR heads to be used until an apparatus is turned off, thereby allowing the sensing current to flow through each of the MR heads in accordance with it.
SOLUTION: A control section 25 sequentially turns on on - off switches 14 for respective MR heads 2 so as to allow a defined current to sequentially flow through the respective MR heads 2 from a sensing current supply circuit 15, thereby measuring resistance values of the respective MR heads 2. Based on the thus obtained resistance values, a magnitude of a sensing current to flow through each of the MR heads 2 is determined and the value is set in the sensing current supply circuit 15. After the values of the sensing currents for all of the MR heads 2 are set in the sensing current supply circuit 2, the control section 25 turns off an on - off switch 17 while turning on a data demodulation switch 18 instead. Thus, data on a magnetic disk 3 detected by the MR heads 2 are input to a signal decoding section 29 to decode a servo signal and a data signal.
