To provide a magneto-optical head device which can stably irradiate a magnet-optical recording medium with evanescent light even when there is a misalignment between the center of a SIL(solid immersion lens) and the optical axis of laser light made incident on the SIL.
A magneto-optical head device for recording or reproducing a signal on/from a magneto-optical recording medium by a laser light beam and a magnetic field, comprises a magneto-optical head 5 having an optical area 51 where the magneto-optical recording medium is irradiated with evanescent light, and having a magnetic area 52 composed of a coil 520 for applying a magnetic field to the magneto-optical recording medium, and an object lens 4 for focusing the laser light on the end face 511 where the optical area 51 of the magneto-optical head 5 is faced to the magneto-optical recording medium. Moreover, minute holes 510 for making the evanescent light LE to exit are formed like the squares of a go board on the end face 511, and the coil 520 is elliptical, and the coil 520 is wound with the center of the coil 520 gradually off-centered so that the center of the ellipse exists on one line, and also with the base line on which the coil center exists rotated in the range of 1-180 degrees.
