Title:
MAGNETO OPTICAL SPATIAL LIGHT MODULATOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2006119337
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To realize a spatial light modulator which has a large number of pixels, a small spacing between pixels and has high density, to efficiently control directions of magnetization of the pixels, and to improve stability of operation of the modulator by suppressing heat generation.

The spatial light modulator is constituted in such a way that a large number of pixels 14, each equipped with a magnetic film composed of a magneto optical material and rotating a polarization direction with Faraday effect, are two-dimensionally arrayed in the x-direction and in the y-direction in a state in which they are separated from one another, and the directions of magnetization of respective pixel are individually controlled with a resultant magnetic field generated by a driving current flowing on x side driving lines 40 and y side driving lines 42 wired along respective pixels, wherein all or a part of the x side and y side driving lines are wired on gap portions between the pixels, and the driving lines wired on the gap portions are shared by the adjacent pixels.
