PURPOSE: To make it possible to exhibit a large magneto-resistance effect with a slight operating magnetic field by specifying the value of the exchange bond energy of the magnetic layers of artificial lattice films and magnetically anisotropic energy, the correlation of both energy values and detecting magnetic field directions in constituting the above element and head.
CONSTITUTION: The element and head are so constituted that J<0 and K>J are attained and that the detecting magnetic field directions are parallel with the direction of easy axis occurring in nearly K when the exchange bond energy between the magnetic layers of the artificial lattice films formed by laminating soft magnetic films and nonmagnetic metallic films is defined as J and the magnetically anisotropic energy as K. As a result, the resistance of the artificial lattice films is once increased and is decreased after the maximal is exhibited (10% increase at 10Oe) to attain nearly the same value in the case of H=0 and is exhibited to attain the same value in the case of decreasing to H<0 when the external magnetic field H is increased from 0 to H>0 as shown in Fig. Consequently, the very slight magnetic field operation is possible and a large magneto-resistance change is exhibited.
