To provide a maintenance method of a marine propulsion apparatus which is capable of carrying out the maintenance of the marine propulsion apparatus regardless of weather and marine meteorology and does not require a large device for moving the propulsion apparatus.
The propulsion apparatus 30 is moved from an action position where the propulsion apparatus 30 generates thrust to a position 11 above a waterline in a hull 10 using a longitudinal hole 20 in the hull 10 and maintenance is carried out. The hull 10 includes a sealed flange 22 formed to partially close the longitudinal hole 20 at a position lower than the waterline. The propulsion apparatus 30 includes a propulsion apparatus body 31 and a drive device 35 arranged at the upper side of the propulsion apparatus body 31. The propulsion apparatus body 31 includes a sealed part 32 pressed downwardly to the sealed flange 22 to water-tightly close the longitudinal hole 20 and a thrust generating part 34 arranged at the lower side of the sealed part 32. When the propulsion apparatus 30 is moved, the propulsion apparatus body 31 and the drive device 35 are separately moved.
