PURPOSE: To continuously manufacture high purity alkali metallic sulfate and thick gaseous HCl with high efficiency by reacting alkali metallic chloride with sulfuric acid or acidic alkali metallic sulfate in a rotary furnace internally provided with a stretched chain with both ends rotatably connected to immobile parts at the outside of the furnace.
CONSTITUTION: Alkali metallic chloride and sulfuric acid or acidic alkali metallic sulfate as starting materials are fed to a rotary furnace 1 from a shoot 4 and a nozzle 5, respectively, and they are reacted according to equations I, II. Produced alkali metallic sulfate and gaseous HCl are taken out of an outlet 7 and a pipe 7, respectively. During the reaction the wall of the furnace is rubbed by a freely rotatable chain 9 to prevent the sticking of the semifluidized reactant to the wall, thereby smoothly producing alkali metallic sulfate. The chain 9 agitates and mixes the reactant uniformly to prevent the formation of large lumps, and since it supplies heat effectively, the reaction rate is increased remarkably, and the final reaction temp. is regulated to a relatively low temp. such as 350W400°C. The wear of the furnace materials is prevented, and the cost of equipment and maintenance is reduced.
