Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the resistance of an austenitic stainless steel contg. B to intergranular corrosion and intergranular corrosion cracking by heat treating the steel under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: An austenitic stainless steel contg. 0.5W4.0% B, <0.1% C, <2% Si, <4% Mn, 16W25% Cr and 8W15% Ni is worked into a plate by hot rolling and cold rolling. The plate is subjected to soln. heat treatment, and it is cooled. The plate is then heated at 700W800°C for ≥5hr to obtain an austenitic stainless steel having superior resistance to intergranular corrosion and intergranular corrosion cracking.
