PURPOSE: To manufacture collagen beads which can be suitably used as carriers for bioactive substances by the procedure in which a clooagen liquid is dropped in an organic solvent to make the collagen globular and then harden it.

CONSTITUTION: A mixture of aqueous collagen or the kile with a 3 to 30wt% liquid and aqueous dispersin of collagen fibers concentration of collagen substance sobubilized with an enzyme or an alkali is dropped in a water insoluble or non- miscible organic solvent, or ther mixture is emulsified in an organic solvent with an emulsifier, whereupon the collagen is made globular and floated in the organic solvent. Afterwards, an aldehyde compound soluble in the organic solvent used in the collagen solution is added to the globular collagen-containing liquid or an ultraviolet-ray irradiation treatment is applied to the liquid for hardening the collagen particles. Thus, the collagen beads can be manufactured and used as carriers for bioactive substances.
