CONSTITUTION: An oleophilic homopolymer or copolymer having repeating units represented by general formula II is prepared from a monomer represented by general formula I in which R is H, 1W4C alkyl, or chlorine; X is -CONH-, -NH-, -NHCONH-, or -NHCOO-; Y is -CONH-, -COO-; A is optionally substd. alkylene or phenylene, and alkylene may be straight or branched; Ar is optionally substd. phenyl; Za, Zb, Zc, Zd are each methine, substd. methine, or -N=; and m, n are each 0 or 1. Said polymer is dissolved in an org. solvent, emulsion dispersed into an aq. gelatin soln. in the presence of a surfactant, and mixed with a silver halide emulsion.
