PURPOSE: To provide a method and jig for manufacturing a magnetic head which is mounted to a head arm by positioning the magnetic head so that it may not be damaged mechanically.

CONSTITUTION: A floating type magnetic head is positioned to a vacuum chuck, an adhesive is applied to a head arm tip, and at the same time the head arm is positioned to the magnetic head and then the head arm tip is laminated to the magnetic head, and then an adhesive is cured and the magnetic head is mounted to the head arm tip. A jig simultaneously contacts the adjacent two side surfaces of a floating type magnetic head 4, at the same time and is provided with an L-shaped fitment 10 for vacuum chuck with a through hole 10a for vacuum suction which is opened on the contacting surface, a vacuum piping 11 which connects the through hole 10a and an external vacuum suction pump via a valve 13 so that the halfway between the valve 13 and the external vacuum suction pump can be removed, a flexible elastic hollow bag 12 for retaining negative pressure which is lead out of the middle part between the valve 13 and the fitment 10 in the vacuum piping 11, and a head arm retention tool 8.
