Title:
MANUFACTURE OF PISTON FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3915155
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately mold a cavity provided for cooling a piston by holding a ring-like salt core provided with supporters at several positions on the outer periphery on a piston casting die, injecting molten aluminum to cast the piston, then dissolving and removing the salt core.
SOLUTION: When a piston 10 having a cavity 30 circulating oil to cool the piston 10 is to be manufactured, a salt core 42 is formed using a salt material into a circular ring shape by a compression press. Three support members 40 made of a plate piece and arranged at uniform intervals are arranged on the outer periphery of the salt core 42 so that one-end sections are buried in the salt core 42. The salt core 42 is set into a piston shape formed by an upper die 44 and main dies 46, 48, a molten aluminum alloy is injected to cast the piston 10. A communication path 32 is cut from the internal space 14 of the piston 10 extracted from the piston die to the salt core 42, and the salt core 42 is dissolved and removed with pressurized water to form the piston cooling cavity 30.
