Abstract:

PURPOSE: To precisely and constantly control a liquid crystal cell gap over the entire screen by combining printing, polishing, and sand blast machining.

CONSTITUTION: Space 10 for discharging are left between adjacent laminate structures of partition walls 11 and plasma electrodes 12 formed in stripes. Thus, a conductor layer and a dielectric layer are etched with a sand blast at the same time to obtain the laminate structures of the partition walls and plasma electrodes 12 which completely match each other. Therefore, the problem of an alignment error generated when the electrodes 12 and partition walls 11 are formed one over another by direct screen printing is eliminated and surface states which are polished and flattened in advance are left on the top surfaces of the partition walls 11 as they are. Thin plate glass is supported by the partition walls 11 which has the smooth top surfaces and are at constant height, and then their flatness is maintained to control the liquid crystal cell gap uniformly over the entire image surface.
