PURPOSE: To cut flat peripheral surfaces to high accuracy by soaking plural circular pieces of polisher material stacked in a cylindrical shape into a liquid, rotating the pieces of polisher material while freezing the liquid, and cutting the peripheral surfaces of the pieces of polisher material by use of a tool, when manufacturing a cylindrical polisher by the stacking of the plural circular pieces of polisher material.

CONSTITUTION: A plurality of ring-shaped pieces of polisher material 9 are stacked into a cylindrical shape, side plates 11, 12 are attached to both sides of the plural pieces of polisher material 9, then a cylindrical member 13 made of a metal such as aluminum is passed through center holes 9b in the pieces, and both ends of the cylindrical member 13 are caulked to the side plates 11, 12 to obtain a polisher. After the polisher is soaked in a liquid to make the liquid permeate the polisher material 9, the liquid is cooled and frozen. Thereafter, a drive shaft is passed through the center holes in the polisher, and the peripheral surfaces of the polisher are machined by use of a tool as the polisher is rotated. Since portions of the polisher near the peripheral surfaces have the appropriate hardness for cutting, the required machining operation can be carried out easily.
